Staff at the hotel have given a number of vivid accounts of paranormal activity over the last fifty years. One of the strangest stories is of a phantom guest at the hotel – one of the staff members welcomed a woman into the hotel and escorted her to her room, only to later find that no-one was booked into the room and that the woman did not exist on the booking registry.
The spectre of a man has been seen on numerous occasions sitting in the dining room on his own. He regularly appears and then disappears and he has been seen by both the staff and the guests at the hotel.
Paranormal activity has been regularly reported in the cellar – the lights have been flicked on and off and the barrels of beer has often been moved around with no-one there.
Brief History
Ashby-de-la-Zouch is a historic town set in the heart of Leicestershire. The ‘de-la-Zouch’ part of the town name was added after the Norman conquest of England when the town came into the possession of the Zouch family. In the 15th century, the town came into possession of the Hastings family and William Hastings enhanced the town’s fortifications. During the English Civil War, the town was under the control of the 1st Baron Loughborough, Henry Hastings, and it was considered a great relief to all nearby towns and villages when Ashby-de-la-Zouch fell after a long siege in 1646
