A regular reported sighting at Mercure Hotel Telford (formerly named Madeley Court Hotel) is that of a monk that is seen moving slowly across the grounds. Hood up and head down he ignores any attempt at communication and then slowly disappears into thin air.

Other reports of similar activity have been seen on the top floor where members of staff and guests have reported seeing maids dressed in Victorian attire quietly going about their business cleaning the floors. Upon sighting, and attempt at communication, they simply fade away into thin air or mysteriously disappear.

Another area which there has been reports of paranormal activity is that of the old mill. This area is now used for many private functions held by the hotel and has been the source of disembodied laughter, and violent poltergeist activities were chairs and tables would move without any explanation.

Madeley Court Hotel is well renowned for its fine dining and superb charm. The medieval manor house itself is steeped in history and can boast the unique ambience of the original house combined with all the modern day luxuries. All 47 rooms are individual in character and some boast original features that you would expect to find in a premier country house.

You will be staying close to some great attractions including Ironbridge Gorge, site of the World’s first iron bridge and home of the Industrial Revolution. There are numerous museums located in and around the Gorge for which you can purchase a “Passport” which will gain you entry to all the museums and can be used over a period of time. Also nearby are Blists Hill, Weston Park, the historic town of Shrewsbury, Powys Castle and RAF Cosford Air Museum.
