Angel View Inn - Eighton, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear

Ghostly activity seems to be rife in the north-east of the country and over the last few years, a number of paranormal investigative teams have taken part in numerous investigations around the region.

The Angel View inn is no exception to this and it was investigated in 2005 by the paranormal team ‘Other World North East’. They found evidence of poltergeist activity, including cold spots, temperature changes, orbs and balls of light. Items were also seen moving and belongings were moved from their original position.

Guests at the hotel have reported feeling as though they are not alone and have also mentioned feeling as though they are being watched. Personal belongings have been moved and temperature changes have been felt by staff and guests alike.

Brief History

Gateshead is one of the oldest towns in the north of the country and there has been a settlement there since Northern times. Industrial trade has been a feature of the town for centuries since coal mining began in Gateshead in 1344.

The industrial revolution bought many people to the area during the 19th century, but a catastrophic explosion in 1854 destroyed much of Gateshead’s medieval heritage. Recently, Gateshead Council has made steps to regenerate the town, with the ultimate aim of making Gateshead into a city. A number of famous footballers live in Gateshead, as does Big Brother narrator Marcus Bentley.

The Angel View inn has recently been refurbished to a high standard, including the bar and restaurant and all of the bedrooms. There is a mixture of singles, doubles, twins and superior doubles and all of the rooms are decorated in individual styles.

The hotel also boasts a brand-new Carvery restaurant, offering freshly cooked roasts and specials alongside a selection of potato and vegetable dishes from 12pm every day. If a Carvery meal isn’t for you, the restaurant also offers an extensive a la carte menu with a range of traditional Northern dishes. The lounge bar at the hotel offers the perfect atmosphere for enjoying a drink before your meal or for celebrating an occasion in style. The bar offers an extensive wine menu as well as a large number of real ales.

Things to do

Newcastle is an incredibly vibrant city with plenty to see and do, and as the hotel is only ten minutes away from town, you’re ideally located for all amenities. Newcastle is full of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and is packed full of nightlife. The Angel of the North is very near to the hotel, as are other local attractions including the Sage Music Hall, St. James’ Park, Gateshead Stadium and the Metro Radio Arena.

Standard rooms were converted from a number of barn buildings and so are all different shapes and sizes, whereas superior rooms have a view of the Angel of the North.
