We don’t know too much about the ghost at the Woolpack Inn, but we do know that she’s supposed to be a friendlier spectre than most. Nicknamed the Grey Lady, because of her colour, she is often seen wandering the main building of the hotel. Perhaps she is the spectre of one of the hotel’s former owners?
Brief History
The Woolpack Inn is one of two pubs in the village of Chilham. It’s a small market town that has been the location for a number of films and television series over the years, including the film A Canterbury Tale made in 1944. There are a number of historical buildings in Chilham, namely Chilham castle, and the Woolpack Inn itself is 600 years old. The patio area of the hotel houses a huge olive tree, which was planted when the hotel was built.
About
The Inn is most definitely a taste of yesteryear, packed with original features everywhere you look. There’s a friendly bar, restaurant with stunning views, patio area with a 600-year-old olive tree, plus a small private garden for three of the hotel’s bedrooms – so whether you want to sit and soak up some of the charming Kentish countrysides in the garden or whether you want to enjoy the warmth of the bar, there’s something at the Woolpack Inn for everyone.

All rooms are fully en-suite with Freeview televisions in each room. Some of the rooms are in the stable block across from the main building, and three of them have access to a small garden patio area.
The Inn also boasts a home-cooked menu, filled with local produce – local mushrooms sautéed in garlic butter finished with stilton and cream and presented on a garlic ciabatta, real home-made steak & Masterbrew Ale pie, and homemade strawberry shortcake are just a few of the delicious meals on offer. Fresh fish is also brought in fresh every day. The Woolpack is also able to accommodate small and large parties for various events – weddings, wakes, parties, anniversaries, christenings etc.
