The Flitwick was home to John Thomas Brooks and his wife back in the early 1800s. It was their first home together as a married couple. The manor stayed within the family for generations until the family died out in 1934. One of the many sightings that have occurred here is of a female who is said to wander freely throughout the hotel. It is believed to be the wife of Mr Brooks, whose daughter (Mary Ann) died of cancer early on in her life. This drove the couple apart, and Mrs Brooks left Flitwick Manor because of it.
It’s also believed by many that the ghost is in fact that of a servant or housekeeper because the ghostly apparitions only began to appear when workers stumbled upon a room in the upper floors of the house. You can expect to see the woman sitting at the foot of your bed or peering out of the windows right the way through the hotel. Her footsteps are also heard walking freely around the rooms and corridors and you may experience some strange happenings with the lights.
