Thе Wavertree hаѕ mаѕѕеѕ оf hіѕtоrу аnd аlѕо a fеw ghоѕtlу tаlеѕ tо tеll. The Grade II listed building on Wavertree High Street (a local conservation area) was built in 1872 in the classical style from designs by architect John Elliot Reeves and built by Okills & Morrison.
Upon opening, the Town Hall was used as the headquarters for the Wavertree Local Board of Health. This was the organisation charged with looking after the streets around Wavertree, making sure the paving, lighting, and cleanliness are kept up with, which include emptying the middens in parts of the township that hadn’t had sewers laid.
Wavertree Township was absorbed by the City of Liverpool in 1895 – alongside the nearby Townships of West Derby, and Walton. For years after the takeover, the Town Hall was used by Liverpool Council for rates collection and a Registry Office. In 1979 – after a long period of lying abandoned, the building was sold to My Eric Cooke, a local businessman who set about refurbishing this beautiful building, reopening it as a public house, restaurant, and functions suite.
With a motto over the door that reads “Sub Umbra Floresco”, or “I flourish in the shade”, the Victorian building now has a new lease of life as a cocktail bar and restaurant, serving fresh food, with a la carte, afternoon tea, excellent Sunday roast, and a range of high quality drinks options.
Arriving around 6:00PM, you’ll be assigned your table for the evening. Once you’ve finished your excellent 3-course dinner, you’ll be whisked away by our friendly team, and given an introduction to the building, the history, the equipment, and the techniques we’ll be using throughout the night. After being split into smaller groups, you’ll then be able to roam the building to familiarise yourself with its layout before we turn off the lights!
After a short break, the fun will begin, as groups head off into various parts of the building to begin the ghost hunt.

Access & Parking: There is ample parking on the high street, charges may apply.
Accessibility: The location is not wheelchair friendly, but is suitable for people with mobility issues.
Please Note: All guests must be 18 years or older. Not suitable for those who are heavily pregnant. Guests are strongly advised to wear comfortable shoes and warm layered clothing.
You’re welcome to bring your own equipment, though we will be providing paranormal equipment to use.
The investigation will be in darkness so please bring a torch with you.
You’re welcome to bring your own snacks and refreshments, however, there are facilities to make both hot and cold drinks, which are provided.
And of course, bring your phone/camera with you, the more pictures we have the better chance we have of capturing something!
