Your Ghost Hunt at Chester town Hall

History of Chester Town Hall

Chester Town Hall, an architectural marvel, stands as a testament to the rich history of Chester. This Victorian-era building, constructed in the late 19th century, has witnessed countless events, both celebratory and sombre. The Town Hall’s grandeur is evident in its intricate stonework, towering clock tower, and the ornate details that adorn its interior.

However, beneath this grandiosity lies a darker history. The Town Hall’s cells once held some of the most notorious criminals in British history. Among them were the infamous Moors Murderers, Myra Hindley and Ian Brady. These two were held in the Town Hall’s cells as they awaited their trial at Chester Assizes, now known as Chester Crown Court, during the tumultuous months of April and May in 1966.

The very thought of their presence in these cells sends shivers down the spine of many, and those who have worked within these confines have often reported feeling an eerie unease.

Furthermore, the Town Hall’s disused Victorian magistrates courtroom has been a setting for many a drama, both real and fictional. Recent scenes from the popular soap, Coronation Street were filmed here, adding another layer to the building’s storied past.

The Hauntings of Chester Town Hall

The Town Hall, with its macabre history, is no stranger to tales of the paranormal. Whispered accounts of unexplained noises, shadowy figures, and cold spots are common among those who have dared to venture into its most haunted areas, especially the cells and the courtroom.
