The Red Lion, Merchantgate, York – 8pm to Midnight
We are going back! There was so much activity and so many unexplained incidents, we have to return. This time the pub is closed and we have full access to the places where activity was the strongest. Not to be missed!
The Red Lion in Merchantgate is noted for its roaring fireplaces and old, yet welcoming features to those who frequent the inn on a regular basis, but what secrets does it hold? Why not join Paranormal Research York as we return to this historic pub and find out with the help of our experienced and highly skilled team of investigators what lies within its walls.
There is evidence of a building on that plot as far back as 1256 ad and as a pub since 1735, when it was called The Three Cups, a symbol for secrecy in those times.
It has been a refuge for priests and religious activists during the Reformation and there is a priest hole in the attic (not accessible during an investigation) that has a “locked off” live camera feed. After the Reformation it was used by the villains and frequently visited by some outside of York and reputedly Dick Turpin.
Upstairs in the inn, rooms were used to hold court sessions and possibly some illegal court sessions to deal with people who they couldn’t get to a formal court. The spirit of a Judge has been seen upstairs!
Around the fireplaces, spirits gather to communicate and be recognised with those who can feel them and in the old stables there is a sense they were used for secret hangings.
Using up-to-date equipment and traditional techniques, PRY will carry out a full investigation of the inn and peel back the layers to let those from The Three Cups and The Red Lion tell their truths.
** Please note there is no parking at the venue, however Castle Car Park is within a five minute walk **
