The Molesworth Arms Hotel, Wadebridge, Cornwall

The Molesworth Arms is a charming 16th century coaching inn located in the picturesque village of Wadebridge in Cornwall. It’s also said to be the subject of a yearly haunting that occurs every New Year’s Eve…

Book Now

The ghost of a coachman has been seen at the hotel on New Year’s Eve for a number of years. New Year’s Eve has long been associated with spiritual and ghostly occurrences, as one year turns into another, and perhaps that’s the reason for this yearly haunting. At midnight on New Year’s Eve, a coach is said to be driven into the courtyard of the hotel by a headless coachman – who knows what happened to him?

Brief History

The Molesworth Arms is a very old building, dating back to the 16th century that was used as a coaching inn for a number of centuries before being used as a bed and breakfast and pub. The village of Wadebridge itself, which was known as Wade before the bridge was built in the village, was granted a license for a market way back in 1312, which gives you some idea as to how long the village has been around.

In 1897, the village formed its own town council after an outbreak of typhoid caused by dirty drinking water meant that decisive action had to be taken as to how to look after the town.

This attractive former coaching inn offers everything that you’d need from a hotel – warm, comfortable accommodation, en-suite bathrooms, breakfast included in the hotel price and a pub and restaurant right downstairs. Rooms comprise of a mixture of singles, doubles, twins and family rooms, so there’s something here for everyone – from the single traveller through to a big family.

There’s a restaurant and bar on-site – as the hotel is also a pub, offering a large range of ales and wines, as well as an extensive British menu and a traditional carvery. There is also a function room on-site, and the dining team can cater to most party sizes depending on your needs. The hotel is also nearby to many amenities, including shops and restaurants. It’s also minutes away from the camel trail, and is just five minutes away from the local cinema.

This is definitely the ideal place to stay at if you’re looking for a base to explore Cornwall from, or even if you just fancy a quick pint.
