Join Haunted Rooms for an unforgettable night of paranormal investigation at the historic Tonbridge Castle in Kent. This 11th-century castle, with its long history of violence, battle, death, and public execution, is considered one of the most haunted locations in Kent.
The hauntings at Tonbridge Castle are quite intense and frequent. The castle’s long history of violence, battle, death, and public execution has seemingly left a strong paranormal imprint.
Ghostly apparitions and haunting screams have been reported by numerous visitors and ghost hunters. These experiences, coupled with the castle’s history, have led many to consider it one of the most haunted locations in Kent.
During our ghost hunts, participants have reported various unexplained phenomena. These include sudden temperature drops, feelings of being watched or touched, and even objects moving of their own accord.
Some of the most common apparitions reported include a woman in white who is often seen wandering the castle grounds and a group of soldiers from the Civil War era. There have also been reports of disembodied voices, footsteps, and strange noises coming from empty rooms.

Time: 8:00 PM – 2:00 AM (Arrive from 7:30 PM). Please be there before 8 PM as we may not be able to let you in after this time as investigations will have started.
Access & Parking:
There is onsite parking at this location. This located at the side of the gatehouse which is a pay and display area.
Accessibility: The location is not wheelchair friendly and may be difficult for those with mobility issues as we will be using steep stairs, and there are lots of uneven surfaces.
Please Note: All guests must be 18 years or older. Not suitable for those who are heavily pregnant. Guests are strongly advised to wear comfortable shoes and warm layered clothing.
You’re welcome to bring your own equipment, though we will be providing paranormal equipment to use.
The investigation will be in darkness so please bring a torch with you.
Although snacks and drinks are provided, you’re welcome to bring your own. There are also facilities to make both hot and cold drinks, which are provided also.
And of course, bring your phone/camera with you, the more pictures we have the better chance we have of capturing something!

Tonbridge Castle, a symbol of the town’s rich history, has seen a multitude of transformations since its inception in the 11th century. The castle, initially a motte and bailey fortification, was built by the Normans after their 1066 invasion.
It was constructed to overlook the River Medway, guarding the road from Hastings to London. Over the centuries, descendants of Richard Fitzgilbert, to whom William the Conqueror had given the land, gradually replaced the earth and timber structure with stone. The castle has witnessed the quarrels of kings and archbishops, and even served as a residence for Henry III’s niece and Edward I’s daughter
The castle’s history is marked by sieges, rebellions, and changes in ownership, reflecting the turbulent times it has witnessed.
In the 18th century, the castle was purchased by John Hooker, a local businessman who saw potential in the derelict castle. His son, Thomas, used the remaining walls to build a manor house on the site. The castle changed hands multiple times in the following years, housing many famous and infamous residents, including architect, playwright, and novelist Samuel Beazley.
The castle was sold again in 1812 to William Bailey, and upon his death in 1831, it returned to the Stafford family, its owners until the 16th century. The castle served various purposes over the years, including a military academy and a prep school.
The castle played a significant role during the Second World War, serving as a station for Air Raid Precautions (ARP) wardens who kept a watchful eye on the skies. The castle was fortified with anti-tank defences and pillboxes, marking its last active military use.
In 1897, the castle was purchased by the Tonbridge Urban District Council as a tribute to Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. The castle, which had long dominated the town, now belonged to the people of Tonbridge.
The castle underwent significant restoration in 1999, with missing floors replaced and the spiral staircase in the East Tower repaired. The restoration allowed for a circular tour of the gatehouse and the creation of additional rooms for education, exhibitions, and civil marriage ceremonies. The gatehouse was reopened in 2000 in celebration of the Millennium.
In 2003, the re-roofing of the gatehouse was completed, preserving the structure of the gatehouse, improving the interior of the building, and providing shelter all year round.
