Description

Ghost Hunts at Croxteth Hall, Liverpool

Welcome to the magnificent Croxteth Hall in Liverpool. A location so infamously haunted, it has been featured on numerous TV shows and news publications.

Croxteth Hall has been renowned for being haunted for many years, but it was thrown into the mainstream news in 2009, when something strange was caught on CCTV outside of the hall.

In the footage, the alleged ghost appears from the bushes, slowly moving along a path leading up to the house, before disappearing.

Experts believe it may be the ghost of the former resident, Hugh William Osbert Molyneux, the 7th Earl of Sefton, who died in 1972.

One other theory claims that it’s the infamous gambler William Philip Molyneux, 2nd Earl of Sefton, who laid the foundation stone at Aintree racecourse in 1829.

Local legend says that it’s William’s ghost wandering the grounds and that he tends to appear around the time of the Grand National every year,

Inside the building lurks several ghosts. They include a young boy standing by the dining room fireplace. A dark shadowy figure that moves around the billiard room, and a gentleman, believed to be the 6th Earl of Sefton, walks through the tearoom and his former bedroom.

Recently people exploring the property have reported the shocking sighting of a man in a hood, with many people describing his face as “horrific”. He’s mainly witnessed in the basement, but he’s also known to walk the corridors and seems to stop and look at people before turning away and disappearing into rooms closed to visitors!

Disembodied footsteps are often heard, and kitchen cupboards and doors open and slam shut of their own accord.

The sheer size and grandeur of this 230-room mansion are daunting, especially in the dead of night. A ghost hunt in this magnificent building is certainly not for the faint-hearted.

Do you have what it takes to conduct a lone vigil in the basement where the dark hooded figure has made itself known?

Spots will fill up quickly for this one, so hurry and book now!

Deposits are available for just £20.

Croxteth Hall History

Croxteth Hall History

Building started on Grade II listed Croxteth Hall in the 16th century to serve as home to the Molyneux family, the Earls of Sefton.  The house remained in the Molyneux family until 1972, when the 7th and last Earl passed away, passing the estate onto Liverpool City Council.

The earliest part of the Hall dates back to 1575. Over the centuries, there have been many renovations and additions, transforming it from a simple Elizabethan hunting lodge to the magnificent building you see before you today.

In 1952 tragedy struck the west wing of the Hall when a fire broke out, destroying all of the important features of Croxteth Hall. This area has now been elegantly restored to what is now known as the Queen Anne Suite. The restoration work was Funded through the Croxteth Estate Endowment Trust Fund, to the tune of £400,000.

The Croxteth County Park is Grade II listed and is Liverpool’s largest, with over 500 acres of woodland, pastures, ponds, and streams.

What to Expect

What to Expect

On your ghost hunt with Haunted Rooms, you will have full exclusive access to the most haunted areas of this historic location. Together with our friendly team of investigators, you will join others on structured vigils, where you’ll have the chance to use some paranormal equipment and join in on group vigils such as Ouija board sessions, and seance.

Our event starts at 8.00 pm but you can arrive at the earliest 7.45 pm. Structured investigations will end around 12-1 am, at which point you will have the opportunity to investigate this location on your own using the techniques and information you have been provided with.

You will have the chance to look around the building before the event to familiarise yourself with its layout. Shortly before the event kicks off, we’ll run you through a quick induction and safety briefing, followed by a short talk and introduction from our team. You’ll then split into smaller groups with your family and/or friends if you’ve come together, and we’ll begin our vigils for the night!

If you have your own paranormal equipment we encourage you to bring it, if not we can provide them free of charge. Snacks, refreshments, and treats will be provided at intervals throughout the night, and we’ll have facilities to make hot and cold drinks too.

We do endeavour to have mediums and sensitives with us for every event, although circumstances out of our control can sometimes prevent this. Anybody that has sensitive abilities we encourage you to come forward, as it only increases the energy and enjoyment for all in attendance.

To get the most from the evening we encourage you to try your hand at as many things as you can, and if you’re feeling particularly brave you should give a lone vigil a try, as well as joining in with our table tipping experiments as we try to commune with the spirits and ghosts of the building.

Please dress weather appropriately, with extra layers of clothing if it’s cold, plus comfortable shoes and a torch if you need one.
