THE infamous Ancient Ram Inn is a 12th century, Grade II listed building, crammed full of chilling history. Believed to have been built on an ancient pagan burial ground, the nearly 900 year old inn sits eerily in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire. Built to house the masons who helped to construct nearby St Mary’s Church, it would be many centuries before it was converted to the inn it is now known as.
In various rooms at the inn, evidence of black magic and child sacrifice have been discovered by owner John Humphries. Throughout it’s history many people have taken refuge here, including a witch and priest only to be dragged out to their deaths, dispelling their belief that this could be a safe place. The ‘Witches Room’ is thought to be one of the most active rooms at the inn for paranormal investigations. In the ‘Bishop’s Room’ a priest hole was found, a common feature in the 16th and 17th century, perhaps explaining why this is the most active room. Is this where the priest attempted to escape his fate?
Also thought to house the spirits of an incubus & succubus and many more terrifying entities including a malevolent poltergeist. The activity reported from The Ancient Ram Inn is so vast that it draws ghost hunting enthusiasts from all over the UK. The Ancient Ram Inn frequently features in lists of the most haunted locations in the world and this is a must see venue for paranormal investigations.
