The Old Mill was as the name suggests, a converted watermill, situated by the River Sowe. When the building was a working water mill, a woman, said to have been trapped and drowned under the wheel, now haunts here. A mummified cat was found during excavations and having been taken from the hotel a number of times ensures bad luck until it is returned. The last attempt to remove it was in 1999.

In the 19th Century, a thousand years of milling came to an end when the mill buildings were converted into a private dwelling, but many of the unique features of that dwelling have been retained, such as the roughly hewn beams in the pub area. Today, the Old Mill Hotel offers 28 exquisite rooms all with en suite facilities of both bath and shower. The rooms are well equipped and as a standard include all the facilities you would expect.

The Head Chef takes great pride and pleasure in continually creating new and exciting dishes, so in addition to the classic favourites, Chef’s Specials and fresh fish dishes appear on the chalkboards in the pub on a daily basis.

The Old Mill’s wine list has been specially selected by Tim Atkin, Master of Wine and wine writer for The Observer. The list features a selection of some of the best traditional European wines and an exciting range from the southern hemisphere.
