This road is situated in Datchworth village between Hertford, Stevenage, and Welwyn Garden City. Datcworth itself sits on top of a Roman road and has evidence of Saxon settlements all over the area.
The whipping post that was used to whip those who had committed crimes still stands in the East side of Datchworth Green. It hasn’t been used since 1665. Stocks also stood near the post but were taken away in 1899.
