Area of outstanding natural beauty and ancient pagan chapel – 30 minute walk from our accommodation (not suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited walking ability)
Grab your backpack and take the short walk into the wooded valley and enter a whole new world of magic and mystery. Learn about the myths and Legends along the way, from standing in the ruins of an old Inn, a site where many passing peddlers were last seen alive, and where the landlady served the “finest” meat pies at a local market –Was there a link?
Pass Craggy outcrops that crown upon a large valley before entering the underworld, a 100ft natural cavern carved into the rock, feel the temperature drop as you enter – would this have anything to do with the ghost of certain young pagan girl – whose life was taken during a massacre of her fellow men and woman for practicing an outlawed faith – it is said she was buried here too and now her spirit still roams.
For those of you who are familiar with the tales of King Arthur and his knights of the round table, you will of course have heard all about Sir Gwain and the Green Knight. As you enter Lud’s church behold, you are in the location of the fabled Green Chapel – the site where Sir-Gwain was to lose his head with the single blow of an axe to keep his promise. Some say a certain rock formation even shows the figure of the Green Knight, ready to jump into your path.
Find a comfy rock and allow our guide to tell you the tale of Sir Gwain, and that of the Green Knight, a legend that concludes in the location you now stand.
A packed lunch will be available on this walk
