Brief History

A hotel has stood on the site of Adelphi Hotel since 1826. The site was originally Ranaleigh Gardens, the first open space for public recreation in Liverpool. The first hotel was replaced by another 50 years later and that hotel was bought by Midland Railway in 1892. In 1911, they began the process of replacing it with the hotel that stands today and when it opened, it was regarded as the “most luxurious hotel outside of London”. Former guests at the hotel include Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra, Laurel and Hardy, Judy Garland, Roy Rogers and his horse Trigger.

Adelphi is a huge hotel with a whopping 402 en-suite bedrooms, all stunningly decorated and furnished, complete with tea and coffee making facilities, a direct dial telephone, hairdryer, trouser press and satellite television. Larger rooms and public areas of the hotel also have access to free Wi-Fi. All of the rooms have been decorated in such a way that they are modern and comfortable, yet still retain the original charm and character of the hotel.

The hotel also retains much of this charm throughout the public areas, with stylish and elegant features such as crystal chandeliers and marble hallways. There are numerous dining options at the Adelphi Hotel, depending on your personal tastes. Cromptons French restaurant offers contemporary French cuisine in elegant surroundings, along with a cocktail bar, a la carte menu or a four curse set menu. Jenny’s Carvery restaurant offers a selection of carvery meals including various meat and vegetable dishes, and Jenny’s bar offers a great range of ales, wines and aperitifs.

There are also plenty of leisure facilities at the hotel, including a gym, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room, solarium and heated marble swimming pool.
