Crumlin Road Gaol Ghosts

Ghost hunters and visitors to the former prison have reported several sightings and have reported hearing strange sounds.  Doors can be heard slamming shut by themselves, and male and female voices can be heard calling out for help.  A man walking down the C wing and disappearing has been seen by a lot of people.

History of Crumlin Road Gaol

Having been built in 1846, Crumlin Road Gaol in Belfast is the only Victorian-era prison still standing in Northern Ireland. It is also known as the Crum or the Crumlin Road Gaol.

The Crumlin Road Gaol in Belfast has been recognized as a grade A listed building because of its historical significance and architectural design.

It stands directly opposite the Crumlin Road Courthouse, and there is a tunnel underneath which connects the two buildings. The tunnel was used to transport the criminals from the courthouse to the gaol and vice versa.

During the prison’s operation from 1846 to 1996, more than 25,000 prisoners were held there, and 17 of those were executed.

Crumlin Road Gaol is a foreboding building that has a long history. The gaol officially closed in 1996, but it has been converted to a tourist attraction and conference venue, attracting thousands of visitors each year.

Visiting Crumlin Road Gaol

After extensive renovations, you can now enjoy the “Crumlin” Road Experience”, a dee” dive into the history of the site, past inmates, the executions, and the story behind the closure of the prison.

During this tour, you can visit the tunnel that connected the Crumlin Road Courthouse to the Gaol, view all the wings from the circle, and even pay a visit to the condemned man’s cell and the execution cell where 17 men met their fate.

During the year, the Gaol offers their paranormal packages, including a 4-hour paranormal investigation of the most haunted areas of the Gaol. For an additional cost, also have a two-course meal.

Investigations start at 9:00 pm and end at approx 1:00 am.
